Albanian Students Dive into Tourism & Hospitality in Italy through Work-Based Learning Experience

This February, 15 students from schools across Albania embarked on a transformative two-week Work-Based Learning (WBL) experience in Foligno, Umbria, thanks to the Erasmus+ CO-HOST project. Immersed in the vibrant Tourism & Hospitality sector, the students gained valuable hands-on experience, sharpening both their professional and soft skills in real-world settings.

From local restaurants to hotels, travel agencies, and NGOs, the students explored diverse roles, including:

  • Assistant chefs and waiters at Ristorante MeTeMagno and Ristorante Botanico, where they improved their culinary and customer service skills;
  • Receptionists at Hotel Valentini, Hotel Villa dei Platani, and Hotel Italia, mastering front-desk operations and hospitality etiquette;
  • Assistant travel agents at Agenzia Grato Viaggio, contributing to trip planning and client interaction;
  • Assistant web developers at CRHACK LAB Foligno, where they built digital skills in a dynamic NGO environment.

This initiative not only empowered students with practical experience but also fostered cultural exchange and personal growth. A special thank you goes to the local partners who opened their doors and made this invaluable learning journey possible.

Opportunities like this highlight the impact of international collaboration in preparing youth for the workforce of tomorrow.

In addition to the students’ placements, the accompanying teacher had the opportunity to visit a local VET school in Foligno to learn more about the Italian vocational system and exchange views with local educators.

BUT It wasn’t all work—students and teachers also enjoyed cultural visits to Perugia and Rome, making unforgettable memories while exploring Italy’s rich history and heritage.
